Gloucester's Oldest Fish & Chip Restaurant

Excellent quality fish and chips. We have used Ye Olde Fish Shoppe 6 or 7 times since the first lockdown and haven’t been disappointed once. Highly recommended.

Stopped here for dinner on a drive from the Midlands to the south coast. I have to say, the fish and chips I had have to be some of the best I’ve ever had. The fish batter was so light and crispy and the chips were great too. Highly recommended and we’ll be back the next time we pass. ?

Richard K

One of the best fish I have ever had, the batter was fantastic and chips were great. The building itself will take you back 500 years ago. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Will definitely go there again.

Probably the best fish and chips in Gloucester, quaint old 16th century building with lots of old world charm. Very good value for money be it dine in or take away.

My go to chippy in Gloucester. It seems that every time I order a haddock they find one for me that could almost be a stand in for Jaws it’s so big.

Alan P

Lovely fish and chips.

Margy S

The best chips I’ve had in ages, in a lovely characterful restaurant with a lovely traditional atmosphere. Upbeat music and friendly service. Will definitely return.

This place has always had a home in my heart as my family and I went there many times as a child and I can honestly say it has not changed. The fish is always fresh, the batter is always crisp, crunchy and tasty and the chips have an amazing amount of flavour and a texture that doesn’t stodge you up but makes you feel full. Well worth the money.

Declan H

The only fish and chip shoppe I have to visit when I am in Gloucester. Sam, our waiter, really took care of us. The food was amazing. I never sat down in the restaurant before but it was totally worth it.

Simone V

The fish (cod) was very nice – firm, with lovely crispy batter, and not greasy. The chips were lovely. Waitress was very nice.

Katherine R

Excellent food, high quality.

Sue H

Really good chips, good size portion. Amazing building they are in as well.

We have fish&chips from here on a monthly basis. Always piping hot, fish cooked fresh, nice pies and decent portions. Staff very helpful and polite.

Staff were prompt with service, incredibly friendly and professional. I mean you could say it was pricey for what you get but most places are like that! Would happily come here again.

My brother was visiting me from the Netherlands, and we wanted to get Fish and Chips. It was however late, so the shop was about to close down. But when the owner heard we were from The Netherlands and it was my brother’s last day. He kept his restaurant and kitchen open, just for us. This was extremely customer friendly and we really enjoyed the Fish and Chips.

A small but great restaurant close to Gloucester Cathedral, have dined there for lunch many times, great Fish & Chips, would recommend this restaraunt to anyone.

It’s the best fish and chip shop in Gloucester! I have been going there for over 15 years and I can genuinely say it’s the best I’ve been to in Gloucester (and I’ve been to quite a few). The food is delicious and reasonably priced and the staff are super friendly! I’d definitely recommend a visit!

This fish and chip shop is great, the portions of chips are perfect and fill you up just the right amount with reasonable prices for each thing. The staff are really friendly and always smiling but most important of all, the chips taste amazing.

Jacob Reece

Good old classic fish and chips. Worth a sit down up stairs, a large portion is very big and fresh. Tea, coffee, mushy peas, bread roll, pies. All at a great standard. Expect to pay a reasonable price for good quality food.

Kenny Ball

Possibly the best fish and chips in Gloucester. Good value for money.

My fav Fish & Chips since my childhood. Now living in London always make a point to have a meal whenever I’m in Gloucester – never disappoints!

Fuad Musa

Best fish and chips I’ve had. Fish was amazing, tasty and chips made from real potatoes. Huge portions of large chips for only £2.60 (it was a lot even for two people)

Martin Myska

Most definitely one of the best fish and chips in Gloucester at a reasonable price. Choice of dishes may not be biggest but quality of them is very high. Would recommend!
